World Tourism Day 2024 will be in Sibu, Sarawak
World Tourism Day (WTD) is an annual event celebrated on September 27th to promote and raise awareness about the importance of tourism, both culturally and economically, and to highlight its potential for sustainable development. This event was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1980 and has been celebrated each year since then.
World Tourism Day not only serves as a platform to advocate for the role of tourism in promoting sustainable economic growth, it is also a platform to raise awareness, highlight global tourism trends, support the global economy, encourage responsible travel, and foster international cooperation.
We are honoured to have joined the World Tourism Day Sarawak 2023 organized by Sarawak Research Society and Responsible Borneo (REBORN), hosted by Curtin University Malaysia and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak in Miri City. This year, we celebrated World Tourism Day Sarawak 2023 under the theme of “Tourism and Green Investments” in this beautiful city of Miri, the main tourist gateway for numerous wildlife attractions.
As announced by our Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid at his concluding remarks during World Tourism Day Sarawak 2023, it is privileged and honoured that UTS will be hosting the World Tourism Day Sarawak 2024 at the Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud. Next year, we will gather to celebrate World Tourism Day Sarawak 2024 under the theme of “Tourism and Peace” in this beautiful city of Sibu, Sarawak.
World Tourism Day Sarawak 2024 will not just be another tourism event, but it serve as our continuous commitment to responsible tourism which is in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and our collective resolve to develop tourism sustainably with UNWTO and global citizens in the tourism and hospitality industry.
